According to a person familiar with his work, Caballero was responsible for “leading Apple’s charge into 5G.” Messages sent to the longtime Apple email address for Caballero, who also served as a vice president at the company, received an automatic reply that says the address is no longer valid and his office phone number has been deactivated:

Two people with knowledge of the matter said Mr. Caballero no longer appears in Apple’s internal directory and org chart. Mr. Caballero didn’t respond to multiple calls or text messages to his mobile phone number.

It couldn’t be learned why Mr. Caballero left the company, but his responsibilities at Apple appeared to be in flux. The date of Mr. Caballero’s departure also couldn’t be learned. But he was still employed at the company as recently as February.

Earlier this month, Apple and Qualcomm announced that they had settled their legal disputes and entered into a multiyear agreement for Qualcomm to once again supply Apple with modem chips.
