Apple: iPhone 5 Pre-orders Have Broken All Previous Records
Apple unveiled the iPhone 5 at a special media event on September 12th and started taking pre-orders for the device 2 days after i.e on Friday, September 14th. While the first wave of these pre-orders is scheduled to start shipping on September 21st, it has already been sold out with shipping times slipping to 2-3 weeks. As expected, the iPhone 5 has broken all previous records with over 2 million pre-orders in first 24 hours, according to Apple (via The Loop).
Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller announced today that iPhone 5 was pre-ordered more than 2 million times in 24 hours when it became available on Friday, a number which is twice than that of iPhone 4S pre-orders.
“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal. iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
On the other hand, AT&T is also reporting a new record with iPhone 5 receiving more pre-orders than any previous iPhone model:
AT&T set a sales record with iPhone 5 over the weekend, making it the fastest-selling iPhone the company has ever offered. Customers ordered more iPhones from AT&T than any previous model both on its first day of pre-orders and over the weekend.
iPhone 5 is still available for pre-order at www.att.com/iphone and will be available in AT&T retail stores beginning at 8am local time on Friday, September 21.
Meanwhile, ten people are already reported standing outside the New York Apple store with still 5 to days go before the official iPhone 5 release.
