Apple iPhone 5S Pre-Orders in China Start September 17

iPhone_intro_page

Apple announced the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on Tuesday and they will both be available online and in-stores on September 20. The iPhone 5C went up for pre-order on Friday, September 13, and during the event Apple said iPhone 5S will not be available for pre-order.

According to a post by MacTrast, the iPhone 5S will be going up for pre-order in China starting on September 17. It has been officially stated on the iPhone section of the Hong Kong Apple Retail Website:

However, it is not only HK customers that will be allowed to pre-order; this is true for the China region in general.

It is not clear why Apple chose to make this offer only to Asian customers. Will Apple decide to extend this offer to the rest of the world, or will they keep it exclusive to China?

The only reason I can think of for the exclusive offer is to reach out to new customers throughout China. Or is it that Apple can not manufacture the iPhone 5S fast enough to make it available for pre-order all over the world.

Do you think Apple should have made the iPhone 5S available for pre-order just like they did with the iPhone 5C?

Yes, Apple should have make Pre-Order for the 5S! I’ll be force to go lineup to have my Unlocked iPhone 5S on launch Day!

  • Hypnotoad

Apple is just trying to use us to make the hype on September 20 seem larger than it really is. This is So we will all lineup at the Apple Store like lemmings Instead of being civilized and ordering online. Just watch Apple will have video of September 20 saying how fabulous the response was

It shouldn’t be too hard since most Canadians buy it on contract right?

  • Patrick Ducharme

Yes probably, except I have to drive 1h30 to go to the closest Apple Store and 1h30 after I bought it to get back!

  • Jon Wong

Probably has something to do with the scalper chaos that’s happened in China/HK in past years. Won’t be surprised if Apple won’t be allowing walk ins without preorder to pickup iPhones.

  • SJism

I thought all iPhones were unlocked, but simply activated at purchase to a specific plan, no? Meaning that odds of unlocked aren’t great.

Tu ne pourrais pas aller au Future Shop/Best Buy/Target ? Ils risquent d’en avoir ?

last year for iphone 5 when it was upgrade only at apple store, the line was 5 hours long in montreal…. so i went to futureshop and best buy at 9am when they opened and there was no one. NO ONE! got my two uprades within 15 minutes. this apparently was the same for all these stores in montreal/laval

  • Patrick Ducharme

Yes, this is good if you want a upgrade. With the new plan, It would cost me 105$/month to basically have the same than what I currently have (for 52$/month). If I go with “upgrade”, Rogers told me it would cost 210$ + 279$ for a iPhone 5S 32GB with a renew of 3 Year (because I’m on a business plan, 2Y contracts doesn’t apply…).

They can’t guaranty that i won’t be force to go to the new plans, so I don’t take the chances to loose my good plan to save 319$ (difference from the Unlocked Apple price vs What Rogers would charge me).

you can still order it online just get it later. and be civilized.

its probably something they had to do, for the deal they made.
