Apple Plans Original Podcasts Related to Apple TV+ Programming: Report

Bloomberg reports Apple is in talks to launch original podcasts tied to its original programming within Apple TV+:

Apple Inc. is discussing making original podcasts related to programs on its Apple TV+ video streaming service, another sign of the technology giant’s growing ambitions in entertainment, according to people familiar with the plans.

Apple sent out a request for pitches last summer, asking podcast producers to pitch ideas for audio programs with some connection to its shows, one of the people said. The company has since discussed making podcasts with producers of its original series, according to two of the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans aren’t final.

Apple’s move into making podcasts tied to its original shows would be similar to how Netflix offers podcasts for its productions, providing viewers with behind the scenes info and more. New podcasts from Apple would yet be another avenue to promote original programming in Apple TV+.

Recently, Apple TV+ original, “The Morning Show”, was nominated in three categories for a 2020 Golden Globe Award, while star Jennifer Aniston recently took home “best actress” at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Apple TV+ costs $5.99 CAD per month in Canada, while it’s offered free for a year with select Apple product purchases.
