Apple’s Website Reveals GarageBand for iOS to Become Free Download [u]

Apple is set to make GarageBand for iOS a free download, joining other iLife (iPhoto, iMovie) and iWork (Numbers, Pages, Keynote) iOS apps which previously went free for new iOS device purchases, as announced at the iPhone keynote on September 10.

The changes were revealed on Apple’s ‘Built-in Apps’ page (as noticed by a MacRumors reader), which now shows GarageBand as an included app alongside iPhoto and iMovie plus iWork iOS apps. Looks like somebody might have hit the ‘update’ button on the website prematurely, or Apple has purposely unveiled this prior to its Tuesday special event.

The fine print in the page footer explicitly states GarageBand is free for new iOS 7 compatible devices purchased on or after September 1, 2013. Also, the app will include additional in-app purchases for instruments and sounds:

GarageBand is free on the App Store for all iOS 7 compatible devices; additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase. iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the App Store for qualifying iOS 7 compatible devices activated on or after September 1, 2013.

The ‘Built-in apps’ page has been updated to reflect new revamped icons which were discovered last week. So if you purchased a new iOS device on or after September 1, Apple is going to giving you GarageBand for iOS free ($4.99 value).

Apple’s October 22 special event will take place on Tuesday, where new iPads, OS X Mavericks and MacBook refreshes are expected to be unveiled.

Update: That was fast. Looks like Apple has taken down the GarageBand icon as now it’s gone. But, new iPhoto and iMovie icons are up still:
