Apple To Acquire LED Camera Flash Components?

According to an AppleInsider report, Apple is rumored to be shopping for LED camera flash components. This rumor comes as speculation increases about whether the next iPhone, due summer 2010, will include a better camera or even if the iPod Touch will receive a camera upgrade.

People familiar with Apple’s initiative claim the electronics maker is seeking allotments of LED camera flash components in the tens of millions for delivery during the 2010 calendar year, meaning future iPhones — and possibly the iPod touch — are the most likely recipients of those parts, due to their sales volume.

As many iPhone 3GS owners can admit, the 3.2MP camera is quite good. Although, photos do suffer in low-light environments, which is where a flash component may be useful. Comparable devices such as the recently debuted Google Nexus One include both a 5MP camera and LED flash.

It will be interesting to see whether or not LED flash components makes it to the iPhone, as Apple traditionally focuses on simplicity and minimization of design.

What do you think? iPhone 4G with flash? iPod Touch with camera and flash?
