[Update] Apple to Hold Media Event on September 7th for iPhone 5?

Update 1: The Loop reports this date is incorrect.

Rumours we’ve heard so far about the next-generation iPhone launch remains in two camps, with reports hinting towards Apple’s annual September media event, but AllThingsD noting an October launch. Rogers employees are already undergoing ‘iPhone pre-launch’ training, and Telus has been rumoured to sell the iPhone 5 in October.

MacRumors reports Kodawarisan states the Fall media event will take place on September 7th, a Wednesday. Arnold Kim followed up with Kodawarisan, and noted the source was ‘in the know’. Kodawarisan was correct in previously predicting a Mac mini launch date back in ’09. Google Translation of the Japanese site as follows:

The new iPod series products, or released on September 08? [Japanese time zone]
Apple special event was the annual fall this year are going to be held on September 08.

Here are previous dates of Apple Fall special events:

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 (invites sent out on September 2): New iPod line up, iTunes 8, iPhone OS 2.1

Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (invites sent out on August 31): New iPod line up, iTunes 9, iPhone OS 3.1

Wednesday, September 1, 2010 (invites sent out on August 25): New iPod line up, Apple TV, iTunes 10, iOS 4.2

…and for this year, it could look like the following:

Wednesday, September 7, 2011 ??? (invites sent out on August 31??): New iPhone line up, iTunes 11, iOS 5 ???

Apple gives roughly a week’s notice for invited media to attend their events. For this year, if the rumoured September 7th date is correct, we should hear about invites being received on August 31st. To make the waiting easier, someone needs to create an Advent calendar for Apple product launches.
