Apple TV Prototype Shows Off New Remote With Touchscreen Style Gestures

Radu Dutzan, a product designer at Onda, has released a video that showcases what the interface on the next Apple TV may look like and how we might interact with it.

The prototype explores a new remote with touchscreen style gestures. The design of the new remote, as seen in the concept image below, replaces the directional pad with a trackpad much like that of a MacBook. There are three buttons located below the trackpad, which include a back button, home button, and play/pause button. For demoing purposes the new remote is simulated using an iPhone.

To accompany the new remote, Dutzan built a working prototype of the Apple TV interface. The design is not meant to be pretty, however it is meant to show how the new method of interaction could work. Dutzan’s idea of the finished interface design can be seen in the image below:

If you are a registered Apple developer, you can try the prototype out for yourself. All you need is an iPhone and an Apple TV. The source code for the project can be found on Dutzan’s Github page.
