Two jewellery companies, Watch Plate and Golden Dreams have started offering a gold plating service for the Apple Watch stainless steel version, at a fraction of how much you would have to pay for the Apple Watch Edition. According to BusinessInsider, Watch Plate is offering the service for as low as $399, allowing you to choose from 24 karat rose gold or 24 karat yellow gold plating.
“The cheapest solution comes from Watch Plate, which for $399 will let you ship them your stainless steel Apple Watch, which they’ll then cover in either 24 karat rose gold or 24 karat yellow gold plating and ship it back within three business days. And to make the whole process easier, Watch Plate will also send you a FedEx label”.
Golden Dreams on the other hand is selling custom gold-plated stainless steel Apple Watches for $4,200, with options for 18 karat rose gold, 18 karat white gold, 24 karat yellow gold. The Geneva based jeweller is also offering custom engraving and some wild Alligator leather Apple Watch straps.
Of course the Apple Watch Edition is made of solid gold and this is merely gold plating but still, if you just want the gold look for your steel Apple Watch, this is definitely a good option.
