Filings Show Apple Watch Series 7 Supports 60.5GHz Wireless Data Transfer
As spotted by MacRumors, FCC filings show that Apple Watch Series 7 is equipped with a new module that enables 60.5GHz wireless data transfer, although the capability may be reserved for Apple’s internal use only.
According to the filings, the feature is only activated when the Apple Watch is placed on a proprietary magnetic dock with a corresponding 60.5GHz module. It is quite possible that Apple Stores might use the dock to wirelessly restore an Apple Watch.
The dock has a model number of A2687 and it is powered by a USB-C port, as noted by Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley.
The filings were submitted by Apple in late August and were published by FCC last week.
Apple has not yet released Canadian pricing for Apple Watch Series 7, but only the U.S. website states prices, which start at $399 (US). It is likely the prices will remain the same in Canada for Apple Watch 7, but we’ll find out soon enough.
