AppTag Laser Blaster Kickstarter Project Brings Laser Tag to your iPhone

Kickstarter has been some to some incredibly successful projects such as the $1.2 million dollar funded Elevation Dock. Now, there’s another cool project, the AppTag Laser Blaster that brings laser tag to your iPhone.

Your iPhone or iPod touch attaches to the gun unit via a clamp, and also works to be compatible with existing toy guns out there. It has some pretty neat augmented reality features in the app and hopes to bring laser tag right to your living room:

AppTag Laser Blaster brings first person shooter console gameplay to smartphones in the real world. Obviously, as with any blaster toy, the object is to shoot your friends! The AppTag does the shooting and the smartphone keeps score and tracks everything else, the App even adds Augmented Reality objects such as medkits, armour, weapons and ammo packs! For targeting we use a focused infrared beam and sensor for the ‘laser’ so it’s totally safe. Each unit has an IR sender and receiver, and the AppTag unit works together with an attached smartphone or iPod Touch.

I like how the unit attaches to most existing gun toys from NERF or BuzzBee, adding another dimension to how it can be used. I guess the only issue with the AppTag Laser Blaster is ensuring all your friends have a unit too. The creators are opening sharing their SDK to allow for others to create apps to work with their Laser Blaster.

Would you consider a pledge for this project? It looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks Sam Chan!
