Jason Koger, whose both hands were amputated after a four-wheeler accident, has recently had the opportunity to get a pair of new ones that can be controlled by an iPhone app, CNNreports (viaGizmodo). In 2008, Jason was riding his four-wheeler on his grandfather’s farm when he came in contact with a downed power line and was jolted with 7,200 volts of electricity. Since his accident, Koger has had a variety of prosthetic hands to help him function.
Developed by UK-based prosthetic developers Touch Bionics, the i-Limb Ultra Revolution offers five independently powered fingers including a fully rotatable thumb. Approved for use by FDA, the iPhone controllable bionic hand offers unparalleled control, enabling wearers to more easily perform activities of daily living and thus increase their quality of life.
It’s smart enough to auto-grasp objects like cups or utensils, but through the use of the associated app, Koger also has access to a library of 24 other grip patterns for more complex activities.
The company claims it offers the closest thing on the market to a real human hand. Check it out:
