Last month, we reported that Google Duplex, a human-sounding artificial intelligence (AI) that can make a restaurant reservation for you over the phone, is coming soon to iPhones and today, the feature has officially started rolling out to iOS and other non-pixel devices in the US, as noted by 9to5Google.
For those who aren’t aware, Google first announced Duplex at the company’s I/O developer conference in May last year. The technology simply requires you to tell your Assistant where you’d like to go, such as, “Book a table for four people at [restaurant name] tomorrow night.”
The Assistant will then call the restaurant and have a conversation with the restaurant’s booker that sounds like it’s coming from another human. Once your reservation is successfully made, you’ll receive a notification on your phone, an email update, and a calendar invite so you don’t forget.
The feature was previously available only on Google Pixel devices but now, it’s expanding to other devices too, including the iPhones.
No word yet as to when Google Duplex will be available to users in Canada and other parts of the world. In the meantime, check out the following video for a better idea of how Google Duplex works.
