Dr. Dre’s new album “Compton: A Soundtrack”, debuted exclusively on Apple Music for its launch and the iPhone maker has announced the latter has streamed 25 million times worldwide in its first week, to go with almost 500,000 downloads sold in iTunes, according to the New York Times:
Dr. Dre’s album “Compton: A Soundtrack” — a loose tie-in to the film “Straight Outta Compton” — had 25 million streams around the world in its first week, and also sold nearly half a million downloads through Apple’s iTunes store, Apple executives said on Sunday.
Apple’s Jimmy Iovine told the newspaper “We’re beginning to show what we can do in terms of communicating music to a worldwide audience and helping artists at the same time.”
The album had 11 million streams in the United States alone, according to industry estimates. Despite the high number of streams in the U.S., “Compton is expected to debut in the second spot on the Billboard Charts when numbers are released Monday morning, only to have been outpaced by country star Luke Bryan’s “Kill the Lights.”
