Facebook is launching a new app today called Mentions. This iOS app is exclusively for public figures such as actors, athletes, musicians and other influencers.
So if you want to try out Mentions, you need to check first if you are one of the public figures with verified Facebook Pages (thank God I’m not one of them!). As a next step, admins of verified Pages can request access by visiting the Mentions website, while public figures simply download the app.
In other words, admins of other types of Facebook Pages, will stick with the Pages Manager App.
What makes Mentions stand out from a regular Facebook account of a public figure, (besides being a new app they need to install) is that it allows famous people to discover and join conversations people are having about them, update their status, or host live Q&A, and get streamlined notifications about their posts, including mentions from other influencers or the media.
This is just the beginning, Facebook says: the social media giant will roll out support for public figures with verified profiles soon.
In fact, tracking online reputation has as a high priority for every public figure and brand and Facebook’s move does make sense, although it is currently limited to the US.
For those ‘lucky’ enough of not being eligible downloading to be eligible to download the Mentions app, here is another solution for monitoring their brand: Mention, an iOS app that tracks your online presence on the web and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.).
After contacting the company CEO, Matthieu Vaxelaire, he said: “It makes sense for Facebook to take media monitoring more seriously. Tracking your online reputation is more important than ever, especially on social networks. What’s even more important is the ability to respond to build and retain the relationships and fan bases that matter most.”
