Your Google Home speaker can now listen to a free ad-supported version of YouTube Music in Canada and other Google Assistant-powered speakers.

According to YouTube, the company explains, “you can ask Google Home to play the right music for any moment or mood, and YouTube Music will play the perfect station, customized to your tastes based upon your request.”

For those looking for an ad-free experience with the ability to ask for a specific song, artist, album or playlist, you’ll require a YouTube Music Premium subscription, which starts at $9.99 per month in Canada. Premium also offers unlimited song skips and replay, to go with background audio and offline downloads.

To setup YouTube Music with your Google Home speaker, launch the Google Home app, head to Services > Music > YouTube Music. Once YouTube Music is set as your default service, you’ll be able to use your voice to play music based on the mood you’re looking for, supported by ads.

This new free ad-supported version of YouTube Music is now available in in Canada and the United States, Mexico, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Japan, Netherlands, and Austria, with “more countries soon.”

This free music option with ads should go well with your $10 Google Home Mini speaker, available with a Spotify Premium subscription.

Last week, YouTube Music launched support for Apple CarPlay.
