George Hotz, the original iPhone unlocker, made a quick post on his blog yesterday, showing a new jailbreak. Also known as “Geohot”, this hacker is the guy who brought us Blackra1n and Blacksn0w, and also discovered an exploit that could allow for the PS3 to be rooted and modded. He always seems to pop up when there is something big coming from Apple. With the iPad release just around the corner, could geohot be working on a jailbreak for the magical device?
This is what George had to say on his blog:
The jailbreak is all software based, and is as simple to use as blackra1n. It is completely untethered, works on all current tethered models(ipt2, 3gs, ipt3), and will probably work on iPad too.
That’s right! Untethered jailbreak for ALL Apple touch devices, including newer bootrom. Of course we won’t know for sure about the iPad jailbreak, until geohot gets his hands on one. Let’s cross our fingers!
Here’s geohot’s video proof. In the video, geohot has a jailbroken iPod Touch 3g, that he reboots on camera, not connected to any computer, and it starts up just fine.
There is no release date for this new jailbreak, and in my opinion, the exploit shouldn’t be made public until the next firmware, so that it will have some longevity. With the impending iPad release and new iPhone coming in the summer, there will most likely be a couple of iPhone OS updates, before the summer is over.
