Google Pixel 3, 3 XL Pre-Order Pricing Starts at $999 in Canada, Available November 1

At today’s Made by Google event in New York City, the company finally unveiled its latest flagship Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones, officially. These latest models are seen as competitors to Apple’s iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

Pixel 3 comes with a FHD 5.5-inch OLED display with 2160 x 1080 resolution at 443 ppi, while the Pixel 3 XL has a 6.3-inch Quad HD OLED display with 2880 x 1440 resolution at 523 ppi, both supporting HDR as well. Apple’s 5.5-inch iPhone XS and 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max displays are at 458 ppi.

These new Pixel 3 smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 CPU, have 4GB of RAM, 12.2MP dual-pixel rear camera, two front cameras (8MP wide-angle and telephoto), and 2915 mAH battery, for “all day” battery life, while both will run the latest Android 9 Pie software.

Pixel 3 Camera Improvements

The new Pixel 3 smartphones are powered by artificial intelligence (AI) according to Google, and it starts with the improved camera, which has a feature called Top Shot, which takes HDR+ photos automatically depending on the situation.

The camera also has a feature called Super Res Zoom, which is “a computational photography technique,” to produce sharper images during zoom. Another feature called Night Sight lets users take natural looking images in low-light without flash, while there’s also now a Group Selfie feature, which allows for 184% more room in selfie pictures.

The new Pixel 3 also allows users to change the bokeh, or background focus, of their Portrait Mode photos, similar to what is coming to Apple’s iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

For video, Google says the Pixel 3 has Motion Auto Focus, which focuses on subjects as they move, which is also available for the front camera as well.

Pixel 3 owners will get unlimited storage for their photos and videos within Google Photos in original resolution.

Included 18 Watt Fast Charger, Pixel Earbuds, Headphone Jack Adapter

The new Pixel 3 models also support wireless charging and come with an 18-watt fast charger in the box. Google says 15 minutes of charging will offer 7 hours of use.

Pixel 3 and 3 XL are IP68 water and dust resistant (like iPhone XS/XS Max) and uses Titan M, a custom-made security chip by Google. The company is calling this “the most secure phone we’ve built yet.”

These phones are available in Just Black, Clearly White and Not Pink, and come with Pixel USB-C earbuds and a USB-C to 3.5 mm headphone adapter in the box.

Google says customers who activate their phones by December 31, 2018, will get 6 months of free YouTube Music Premium.

Right now, Google says if you pre-order a Pixel 3 between October 9-31, 2018, they will throw in a free Pixel Stand wireless charger for Canadians, worth $109 CAD (it launches in November).
