Government of Ontario Releases New Ad Campaign Showing Consequences of Distracted Driving

The Government of Ontario has released a new ad campaign that shows the real life consequences of distracted driving. The ad campaign is centred around a simple message: “It happens fast. Put down the phone.”

The province of Ontario said that nearly one in seven deaths on Ontario cards are caused by distracted driving, which makes it higher than any other driving fatality including drinking and driving.

However, the government wants to make it clear that distracted driving does not strictly mean the use of a smartphone while you are behind the wheel. Distracted driving includes various other activities like eating, reading, or even using a GPS.

Statistics from the province show that a person using a smartphone while driving is four times more likely to be involved in a collision when compared to a driver who is concentrated only on the road. Over the past 10 years, distracted driving deaths have increased 26 percent.
