Apple’s HomePod Supports Bluetooth 5.0, Like iPhone 8 and iPhone X

Apple’s HomePod will be ready for pre-order this Friday in the US, UK and Australia, with a launch set for February 2.

Unfortunately, Canadians won’t be able to order HomePod yet, as the device doesn’t appear to be launching here anytime soon, which some believe may be a result of the lack of French language support at launch.

As for HomePod itself, Apple’s website for the speaker now lists support for Bluetooth 5.0. No, you won’t be able to use HomePod as a Bluetooth speaker (hopefully someday), but with Bluetooth 5.0, the latter will enable better HomeKit functionality, to connect to BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) devices over greater distances and transmit data at faster speeds.

Bluetooth 5.0 support for HomePod does not come as surprise, given Apple’s latest devices such as Apple TV 4K, iPhone 8/8 Plus and iPhone X support the wireless protocol as well.

Apple’s HomePod will work in Canada if you plan to purchase it in the USA, but only English will be supported for Siri.
