How to Celebrate 2021 Chinese New Year with Apple’s iMessage

Today marks the beginning of Chinese New Year for 2021, or the Lunar New Year. If you’re celebrating today, you can send some special effects in Apple’s iMessage on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac.

All you have to do is send the following messages within iMessage or by using Siri:

  • Happy Chinese New Year
  • Happy Lunar New Year

Once you hit send, you get a red-themed fireworks effect, similar to what you see when you type ‘Happy New Year’:

Apple also has emojis to celebrate 2021 Chinese New Year as well, with a red envelope, firecracker, red circle, red paper lantern and ox, with the latter animal representing this year’s Chinese zodiac sign.

As for other Lunar New Year effects today on other platforms, Google’s Doodle is celebrating Year of the Ox with fireworks effects as well.
