Instagram App Update Brings an All-New Search and Explore Tab

Instagram

Instagram has today announced the release of its iOS app’s latest update, that introduces two major enhancements: the all-new Explore page, with trending Tags and Places, and a more powerful search that makes it easier to find the people, places, and tags you’re looking for. The new update is now rolling out in the U.S. App store and should be coming to Canada pretty soon as well.

“In addition, at the top of the Explore page you will find new curated collections that will be updated regularly, featuring interesting accounts and places, from musicians and extreme athletes to stunning architecture and gorgeous beaches.

To start, these updates to Explore will only be available in the United States. We’ll work to bring it to the rest of the world after we fine tune the experience and set it up to work well in other countries”.

The re-designed Explore page surfaces trends as they emerge in real-time, connecting you to events and conversations both near you and around the globe. Through trending Tags and trending Places, you can experience moments like #fathersday and much more. Meanwhile, today’s update also dramatically improves the app’s ability to find what you’re looking for.

We’re thrilled to introduce a redesigned Explore tab in the US, featuring several major updates:

  • Trending tags and places: Dynamically updated content gives you a real-time look at what’s happening nearby—and all over the world.
  • Curated collections: Explore a rotating selection of people and places—like extreme athletes or national parks—hand-picked by Instagram. Places search: Now that you can search by location, it’s easy to explore an exotic vacation destination or see what’s happening in your neighborhood.
  • Search by location: Find posts specifically tagged with a place name.
  • Search all posts: Do a quick power search across username, name, hashtag or location.
