iOS 13.1 Brings ‘Accuracy Update’ to Emojis Such as Squid, Octopus and More

With today’s release of iOS 13.1, iPadOS 13 and tvOS 13, Apple has also tweaked emojis as well, part of an ‘accuracy update’, reports Emojipedia:

A total of 24 emoji designs have been changed in iOS 13.1, amongst which there are gestures towards greater anatomical and historical accuracy.

Below are some of the emoji changes noted by Emojipedia:

  • Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes, Face Blowing a Kiss and Smiling Cat Face with Heart Eyes: now uses heart emoji for eyes instead of distinct heart shape
  • Octopus: front two arms now have suckers
  • Squid: fake news siphon dropped from the centre of the face
  • Mosquito: gets an anatomically correct sixth leg
  • Jigsaw: now green instead of blue; possibly to avoid confusion with an Autism awareness group
  • Abacus: beads now show vertically; the proper way it should be used

These emoji updates are available in iOS 13.1, iPadOS 13 and will be coming soon to macOS Catalina when it releases in October.
