According to a new study from Adobe Digital Index, iOS users are more engaged when using an app on their mobile device.
The study shows that an average iOS user will use an app twice as long as an Android user. Users of Apple’s mobile operating system have also been shown to launch apps more frequently than Android users.
The report used data collected from over 700 million app sessions to establish this result. Of the 700 million sessions, 65 percent of app launches were on iOS while 34 percent were on Android. The remaining one percent accounts for app launches across Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices.
“What the reports generally fail to offer is any sort of explanation. To some extent, it could be that early iPhone users were less price-sensitive from the very beginning, willing to pay for a premium hardware device and then willing to buy apps to fill it. They then use these apps, having some appreciation for the value of the creations that they may have spent some money to acquire.”
The new study also found that customers are 10 percent more likely to purchase an item in their online shopping cart if a digital wallet payment option is available. Adobe found that digital wallet purchases are the highest on smartphones, with 23 percent. That compares to tablet purchases at 19 percent and desktop purchases at 16 percent.
With Apple Pay launching just one month ago, users can now securely complete an online transaction with their existing credit cards using Touch ID. Currently Apple Pay supports various Internet-based retailers including Apple Store, Disney Store, and Target.
Apple Pay for online purchases is currently available for all U.S. based customers using an iPhone 6 / 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 3.
