We’ve already seen the first iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro drop tests by EverythingApplePro, but more have arrived.
This morning, Allstate released its iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro drop tests, using a machine to drop these new iPhones onto sidewalks.
“Through face-down, back-down, and side-down breakability drop tests, Allstate Protection Plans found that the Ceramic Shield front cover is certainly more durable, but is not damage-proof,” said the company in an email to iPhone in Canada.
The iPhone 12 display with Ceramic Shield did not shatter with face-down drops from 6 feet, but the iPhone 12 Pro did. The iPhone 12 did not shatter its rear in back-down drop tests, unlike iPhone 12 Pro. Both phones were relatively unharmed in side-down drop tests.
“Additionally, the flat side design appears to improve durability on both phones when dropped on their rear panels. When dropped on their backs, the iPhone 12 barely suffered any damage, though the iPhone 12 Pro shattered,” added Allstate in an emailed statement.

Allstate concludes, “iPhone 12 is the most durable smartphone we’ve tested,” saying Ceramic Shield “is a leap forward for durability,” but is not indestructible. The company recommends users treat their new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro like they are expensive cameras.
As for another drop test, YouTube channel PhoneBuff released its own iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro torture tests on Sunday evening, using its drop machine we’ve seen many times over the years.
Ceramic Shield for the front glass of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro survived the face-drop onto a cinder block and stayed intact, called an “excellent result”.
In the bonus round onto a steel surface, after five face-down drops, both displays were still functional. After 10 drops, both phones are still unscathed and still functional. “An absolutely incredible result”, says PhoneBuff.
In the “bonus, bonus” round, both phones were dropped from face-down from 1.5 metres back onto the concrete block. The result? iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro saw no damage to the displays. “A really, really, impressive result,” says PhoneBuff.
So after seeing a few of these iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro drop tests, it sounds like Ceramic Shield is legit and the real deal. Still though, you probably want to buy a glass screen protector ($16.99 2-pack on Amazon.ca) and case to protect your precious iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 pro.
