iPhone X Wins ‘Best Overall’ in Tom’s Guide Innovation Awards

Tom’s Guide has revealed the winners of its first annual Innovation awards, which recognizes the true foward-looking technology products in 2017.

The award winners were hand selected by the editorial team over at Tom’s Guide. With a total of 14 category titles up for grabs, each product was subject to in-depth research and testing.

The winner of the “Best Overall” category went to the iPhone X. Apple’s latest smartphone was not the first to feature technologies like facial recognition or an OLED display, but the report notes that they executed these feature better than the compeition. In a statement, Apple’s VP of product Greg Joswiak said:

“The color accuracy is incredible; that’s one of those things that OLED didn’t knock out. The colors had been wrong, oversaturated.”

With the iPhone X, Apple built its own colour-management system to ensure that the colours on the display are the most accurate. The team that developed the Super Retina Display also created a unique folding-panel design that allows them to stack circuit as tight as possible, which gave them a near bezel-less design.

In addition to these features, the iPhone X pushes the boundary of mobile computing with the A11 Bionic chip, which is a processor that is more advanced than anything we’ve ever seen on a smartphone before. These three main features combined made Apple’s flagship smartphone the most innovative product of the year.

In the blog post, editor in chief of Tom’s Guide Mark Spoonauer said:

“Our Innovation Awards is a chance to shine a light on those products that stood above the rest in 2017. From a gaming console that redefined the category to a drone you can control with your hand, our selections are true breakthroughs.”
