iPhones with Under Display Touch ID Not Coming Anytime Soon, Says Kuo

Will Apple ever integrate Touch ID into the display of an iPhone? While Face ID is great, nothing beats Touch ID when you want to unlock your device and can’t stare at it.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said on Wednesday he has now changed his prediction on when the company will debut an iPhone with Touch ID embedded underneath the display.

“I previously predicted iPhones would support under-display fingerprint sensing/Touch ID in 2023 at the earliest. But the latest survey indicates new iPhones in 2023 & 2024 may not adopt under-display Touch ID. Face ID with a mask on iPhone is already a great biometrics solution,” said Kuo.

Back in June of last year, Kuo said iPhone 14 would get embedded Touch ID under the display. Months later, he changed his prediction to say this feature would debut in the second half of 2023. Now today, he’s saying it may not appear in 2023 or 2024.

Kuo’s predictions for an iPhone with Touch ID built into the display have been all over the place recently. Back in August 2019, he said Apple would bring back Touch ID and implement it under the display for 2021 iPhones. That didn’t happen with the iPhone 13 lineup.

Are you waiting for Apple to bring Touch ID into the display of a future iPhone?
