Canadians looking to stream the first season of The Handmaid’s Tale, can now pre-order the first season’s Season Pass exclusively on iTunes, available for $31.99 CAD in HD and $22.99 in SD.
The pass will include both current and future episodes of the first season, which is based on Canadian author Margaret Atwood’s best-selling novel. The Handmaid’s Tale will be released May 1, 2017 in Canada on iTunes with a double episode premiere.
Here’s the synopsis of the show, which stars Elisabeth Moss (Peggy Olsen from Mad Men):
The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, “Offred,” is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world.
The story is set in and around Cambridge, Massachusetts, but there is a Canadian link to the show beyond being based on Atwood’s novel—it was filmed in Toronto.
Our American friends will get start streaming the show on Hulu starting April 26, 2017. In Canada, the show’s rights are owned by Bell Media, and will air on Bravo Sundays at 9PM local time (April 30, 2017). Once the season finale airs on Bravo, the entire first season will be available on CraveTV.
