Code in macOS Sierra Suggests OLED Touch Bar Coming to the Mac

Now that Apple has officially presented its next generation desktop operating system, macOS Sierra, its API Reference webpage includes various resources corroborating earlier rumours and hinting toward new features that we may see in future Macs, like that rumoured OLED touch bar. Touch ID support, anyone?

As first spotted by MacGeneration, Apple’s developer documentation webpage includes a wide variety of references that suggest the rumoured OLED touch bar may become a reality when the new Macs launch this fall.

For example, there is a “kHIDUsage_LED_DoNotDisturb” reference for a dedicated Do Not Disturb Button which compares to the current method of accessing that feature: click to bring up the notifications pane, and then look for the button.

Among are other interesting references such as “kHIDUsage_LED” which apply to different music control functions, or “kHIDUsage_LED_NightMode” (Night Shift is coming to the Mac?), there are references to biometric input device taps, similar to what was discovered when iOS 7 beta launched. That year Apple introduced Touch ID.

The rumour mill has been talking about major changes for MacBook Pro, and all the aforementioned references seem to confirm that. When will Apple unveil the redesigned MacBook Pro possible with Touch ID and OLED touch bar? Well, macOS Sierra will launch this fall, so this mean Apple will likely have a busy fall hardware-wise.
