Nintendo Adds Five New Sega Genesis Titles to Switch Online Expansion Pack

Today, Nintendo has added five new Sega Genesis titles to its Switch Online Expansion Pack. These games will coexist alongside the growling list of older games available to play through the premium subscription tier.

The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack went live earlier this year. A 12-month Individual Membership subscription costs $63.99 CAD. However, 12-month Family Membership (which includes up to eight accounts) costs $99.99 CAD. Subscribing opens up a virtual catalogue of games across the N64 and Sega Genesis eras. Nintendo of America confirmed that the five new Sega Genesis games being added to the fold are Altered Beast, ToeJam & Earl, Dynamite Headdy, Sword of Vermilion, and Thunder Force II.

Titles like Altered Beast and ToeJam & Earl once had a pretty strong following when they were each released in 1988 and 1991 respectively. 1989’s Sword of Vermilion also has a fairly strong following behind the retro action RPG title.

When Nintendo launched its Switch Online Expansion Pack, the company frontloaded it with Sega Genesis content including access to titles such as Castlevania: Bloodlines, Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Contra: Hard Corp, Golden Axe and, Ecco the Dolphin.

Nintendo 64 games currently on the subscription service include Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, and most recently, Paper Mario.
