Nintendo Switch is the Best-Selling Console in Canada for 25 Consecutive Months

Nintendo has announced that its Switch handheld-console hybrid is the best-selling console in Canada for 25 consecutive months.

Confirmation on this news comes from data and market research company The NPD Group, who states that the Switch sold a combined total of 148,000 between the Switch and Switch Lite in Canada during November. The strong sales figures broke a record for Nintendo, hitting a 25-month sales milestone.

Naturally, Black Friday deals helped solidify Nintendo’s dominance in Canada during November. During Black Friday, Nintendo offered a bundle that included a Nintendo Switch console with a digital code for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and a three-month subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service.

“We are pleased that fans of all ages throughout Canada are playing Nintendo Switch and enjoying the versatility of the system,” said Dominic Gross, General Manager, Nintendo of Canada. “Whether it is playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe together or connecting online with friends and family to share island creations in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game, Nintendo Switch offers something for everyone and we hope it creates many happy memories this holiday season and beyond”.

Nintendo has sold a total of 790,000 Switch consoles in Canada throughout the first 11 months of 2020. This number surpassed Nintendo’s Canada total sales in 2019 by 162,000 units.

The strong reception to Nintendo’s hardware is likely backed by the company’s standout software output this year. In 2020, Nintendo released the critically acclaimed Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Additional first-party titles include Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and Pikmin 3 Deluxe, all of which released throughout the year.
