Following comprehensive compatibility testing, OWC has today confirmed that the 2019 27-inch iMac Retina 5K can be user-upgraded to 128GB of 2667 MHz DDR4 memory. Pricing and availability of the upgrades will be revealed soon on the OWC website.

After completing the upgrade, you’ll be able to enjoy the sight of Activity Monitor showing 128 GB of physical memory and almost no memory pressure (see screenshot below). The upgrade is perfect for those who use RAM-hungry applications.

Upgrades to the 2019 27-inch iMac Retina 5K can be performed by anyone by simply opening a small hatch on the back of the unplugged computer and inserting new DIMMs in the open or existing slots.

Earlier this month, Apple announced updated versions of the iMac with new Intel processors. On the 27-inch 5K iMac, six-core processors have replaced four-core models as the default. Base processors for these are a 3.0 GHz six-core eighth-generation i5 ($2399 CAD model), 3.16GHz six-core eighth-generation i5 ($2649 CAD model), and 3.7Ghz six-core ninth-generation i5 ($3079 CAD model).
