Ring Always Home Cam: Self-Flying Indoor Security Camera [VIDEO]

As part of Amazon’s announcements today, its subsidiary Ring also unveiled new home security products, such as the futuristic Ring Always Home Cam.

This camera is unique as there’s a mini self-flying drone that can navigate through your home, to allow you to see what is happening in real-time:

“Ever feel like you left the door unlocked, or forgot to turn off the stove? Do you receive a Ring Alarm alert and immediately want to see what’s happening? The Ring Always Home Cam is here to help,” explains Ring.

“This compact, lightweight, autonomously flying indoor camera gives even greater visibility when you’re not home.”

According to Ring, the Always Home Cam integrates with Ring Alarm. When the Ring Alarm home security system is triggered when you’re not home, the Always Home Cam “will automatically fly a set path to see what’s happening. You can easily stream video while the camera is in-flight via the Ring App, making sure that you’re in the know when it comes to everything happening at home.”

The Always Home Cam is designed to fly at a certain humming volume, so those around it will be aware of its presence and that it is recording video. Watch out, bad guys.

At this point, we don’t know if Always Home Cam will go beyond just a concept. The company explains, “Ring Always Home Cam has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. Ring Always Home Cam is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.”

Sadly, the Ring Always Home Cam is for the United States only, and there’s no news on when this will come to Canada, if ever. I hope future versions will see a design shaped like a shark’s head–and with frickin’ lasers.
