Rogers Gives Themselves ‘Product of the Year’ Award for Smart Home Monitoring

Today, a report was released that lists the “Products of the Year” for Canada, which showcases the best products based on customer satisfaction, innovation, and appeal.

“The Product of the Year Canada red seal is awarded to manufacturers who refine, develop, or adapt their products in order to stay top-of-mind for consumers.”

A jury selects a group of products that meet the standards for the award. Those finalists are categorized (three products per category) and sent to Canadian consumers via a survey that is conducted by the Rogers Custom Research group. Products with the most votes in each category win.

This year, you’ll never believe who won the award in the Home Technology category. Rogers gave themselves an award for their Smart Home Monitoring solutions, which allows users to remotely turn off lights, lock doors, and control the temperature of their homes.

I don’t know about you, but I believe that this is a serious conflict of interest. The company that runs the research group won an award for their own service. Do you think it’s fair for Rogers to be included in the product nominations even though they run the survey that picks the winner? Let us know in the comments below.
