Saskatchewan’s Sasktel To Receive New iPhone Summer 2010

Back in late October 2009, a month before the Telus/Bell iPhone officially launched, it was reported that the iPhone would not debut on Sasktel due to the lack of network support.

At that time, Sasktel signed a network sharing agreement with Telus and Bell to deploy UMTS and HSPA services in the area with a completion date of mid-2011.

This morning we bring fantastic news for Saskatchewan residents as Sasktel CEO Robert Watson has announced the following:

We’re building the 3G network right now. It will be up and running for July 1st (with) completion by the end of this year.

On the topic of what devices will be available for the new network, Watson further states:

The good news is that (Apple) is coming out with a new version of the iPhone in the June time-frame and they’re going to put us on that. So we’re quite excited about that.

At first glance it would seem that the Sasktel executive may know something that others do not in regards to the iPhone launch, however he may have stumbled across our story regarding a June 22, 2010 launch of a new iPhone.

In any case, Saskatchewan residents, your patience has paid off.
