As Apple continues to release beta seeds of iOS 4.2, the company is constantly making changes to its compatibility list.
With the latest iOS 4.2 build, it seems that Apple has officially cut support for AirPrint on the second-generation iPod touch. When iOS 4.2 was initially announced, the second-generation iPod touch was a compatible device for AirPrint.
At the time of announcement, the Apple press release stated that “AirPrint will work with iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (second generation and later).”
The revised text now indicates that “AirPrint will work with iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (third generation and later).”
Now both the iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod touch will not have official Apple support for AirPrint. The one thing to note is that ever since the release of iOS 4, the iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod touch have always been on the edge of compatibility.
On a more positive outlook, Apple is known to continually shift device compatibility, as we saw with Game Center support. At first Game Center was dropped from the iPhone 3G and second-generation iPod touch, only to be restored back to the second-generation iPod touch in iOS 4.1.
