Starbucks Rewards members in Canada no longer have to preload their cards in order to enjoy the program’s benefits.
According to a new press release, Starbucks Rewards members can now pay as they go and still earn Stars through the Starbucks app. Before, members were required to preload their cards on the Starbucks app in order to earn and redeem Stars.
Now, users can just scan the app and then pay with cash, credit/debit cards, and select mobile wallets and earn Stars.
“Having a connection with our customers, whether in our stores or digitally, allows us to anticipate their needs and deliver the products and experiences they are looking for. Our customers have shared with us that they would like more options to pay and earn Stars in the app as a Starbucks Rewards member, in addition to the Starbucks Card,” said Brady Brewer, Starbucks chief marketing officer. “We expect the expansion of payment options will appeal to an even wider customer audience and deepen engagement with our members.”
In addition to announcing the change to the program, Starbucks also highlighted a number of statistics, including the fact that Starbucks rewarded more than 100 million Stars in Starbucks for Life and the Summer Games across the United States and Canada in 2019 alone.
Additionally, 41 million prizes have been awarded to Starbucks Rewards members in the United States and Canada since the program first started in 2015, including 58 members who’ve won Starbucks for Life.
“25 Stars is all members need to start redeeming Stars for free rewards like an extra espresso shot, dairy substitute or a dash of syrup. 50 Stars gets members a brewed hot coffee, bakery item or hot tea, 150 Stars can be redeemed for a handcrafted drink, hot breakfast or parfait, 250 Stars will get members a lunch sandwich or protein box, and 400 Stars can be redeemed for select merchandise or a bag of coffee,” explains Starbucks.
