Streaming services are booming in 2020, according to new data.
A new report from Reuters says that Netflix is ahead of competitors YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ with over 59 million installs in the first quarter of the year, however more time was reportedly spent on YouTube’s Kids platform as usage has boomed following the closure of thousands of schools worldwide.
According to the report, data from analystics firms Apptopia and Braze show Youtube collected $110 million USD in in-app spending during Q1 2020, the highest among the major streaming platforms.
While the data didn’t give actual hours of usage, it ranked YouTube Kids first, Netflix second, and regular YouTube third.
The data also shows Amazon’s game streaming platform Twitch was one fo the most downloaded mobile apps worldwide, collecting nearly $20 million USD in user spending in the first quarter of 2020. The platform’s most streamed game is “League of Legends,” according to TwitchMetrics.
“The coronavirus pandemic, and the resulting move across the world towards working from home, has driven a boom in usage of online gaming, streaming and communications, putting pressure on streaming companies’ infrastructure and speed,” concludes the report.
