IKEA-Owned Service Platform TaskRabbit Expands to Canada

Small jobs online platform TaskRabbit, which was bought last year by the world’s biggest furniture retailer IKEA Group, officially launched in Canada today.

According to a new report from TechCrunch, TaskRabbit, whose platform connects people with freelance handymen and other workers for tasks such as minor home repairs, deliveries, and IKEA furniture assembly, is moving into its third market in Canada, after the United States and the United Kingdom.

“For the past 10 years, we’ve helped connect hundreds of thousands of people to a trusted network of Taskers who can tackle those tough to-do’s,” said Stacy Brown-Philpot, CEO of TaskRabbit.

“Whether it’s assembling furniture, mounting TVs or helping with moving and packing, we’re excited to bring TaskRabbit to Canada so people in more communities can get help for life,” she continued.

Sweden-based IKEA, known for its cheap self-assembly furniture and its large warehouse stores across worldwide markets, bought TaskRabbit as part of a strategy to boost its service offering to keep up with changing shopper habits and expectations.

“Beginning in October, TaskRabbit will also roll out in select IKEA Canada stores and online,” TaskRabbit said in a statement.

TaskRabbit is currently present in around 45 cities across the United States and Britain.

To book a Tasker in the Greater Toronto Area, download the TaskRabbit app from the App Store. After providing a few details, a client can easily hire a Tasker at their preferred date and time.
