The Text Message Celebrates its 25th Anniversary on Dec. 3rd

It’s been 25 years since the first ever text message was sent, a simple greeting (“Merry Christmas”) by UK born and Montreal resident software engineer Neil Papworth. To be exact, December 3rd 2017 marks the 25th anniversary of the text message, a service being used by billions of people around the world as their preferred way to communicate.

Study

According to a new global study commissioned by Messenger, 80% of adults and 91% of teens use text messaging every day, despite a widespread agreement that communication has changed over the years as people are embracing more varied methods.

The study also found out that many people trust their written skills more than their small talk or ability to speak in public. “Messaging helps people self-moderate their thoughts, information, and ideas.”

To mark the occasion, Messenger has also created a short video to represent moments over the years where messaging has impacted our lives. Check it out below.
