Text Selection and Mail App Amongst the Features Apple Needs to Fix in 2020

2019 has been a fairly solid year for Apple. With a multitude of new devices came new software updates to support them. Unfortunately, the latest iOS updates haven’t fixed some of the most annoying bugs. In fact, some additional bugs came out of this year’s updates.

ZDNet put together their list of “iOS Bugs and Annoyances Apple Needs to Fix in 2020”. In it, they went over the top seven features and apps that need more attention from Apple in 2020. The first to make the list was Text Selection. While the feature was never without its flaws, ZDNet points out that the introduction of iOS 13 made it frustratingly difficult to select text dependably.

iOS 13 put a strain on a background refresh as well. Although this feature has improved over time, iOS 13.2 verifiably caused issues when multitasking and caused disruptions while swapping between apps.

Screen orientation and AirDrop not working correctly have also been pain points for the iPhone. Devices will sometimes lose track of the screen orientation, requiring you to turn your phone over and over until it’s back to normal. AirDrop is finicky as well. When the feature works, it’s fantastic. However, there have been more than a few instances where it’s become a chore to send a simple photo or file.

It’s not just features that made ZDNet‘s list. The Mail app, Settings, and HomeKit could all use some love in the new year. The Mail app has never quite reached its potential from a quality of life perspective. HomeKit is bogged down by quite a few bugs of its own. With every new iOS update, Settings becomes more and more bloated.

New iOS updates typically bring a slew of new user-friendly features to the table, but can also impact older features. As Apple continually refines its products, we’re hopeful that they can reign in some of the blemishes listed above and rectify them in 2020.
