The Next ‘iPhone 5’ to Be Thinner and Utilize All Glass with Possible Larger Screen? [Rumour]

iPhone 5 mock up

iLounge editor Jeremy Horwitz is once again spitting out some rumours from his sources, and the most recent news is the next generation iPhone 5 is to remain all glass, even though we’ve heard numerous rumours of an aluminum backed phone:

(2) Another Glass iPhone. Despite the well-established “aluminum-backed iPhone 5” rumors that have continued to circulate since the iPhone 4 was released, Apple is nonetheless continuing to experiment with glass and ceramic rear shells for a future iPhone model. The upshot is that the new design would be like the iPhone 4, but thinner, thanks to Corning’s stronger Gorilla Glass 2 and the further reduction of internal components. Our source suggests that the 30-pin Dock Connector is likely on the way out in the near future, and that a larger screen remains in the cards.

The design would apparently be thinner thanks to Corning’s Gorilla Glass, which Apple publicly acknowledged was used for its iPhones for the first time last week. Horowitz touches on the possible revamp of the classic 30-pin dock connector, earlier reported by iMore, and also the possibility of a larger screen.

So far, we’ve seen the iPhone start out with an aluminum back, then move onto plastic for the iPhone 3G/3GS, and finally all glass for the iPhone 4/4S. Aside from the original iPhone, major iterations have occurred in pairs. What will the next iPhone bring?
