Twitter Canada’s Top Trends of 2016 Revealed, #BellLetsTalk Most Used Hashtag

Another year coming to a close, and that means another top trends list, this time from Twitter, which has shared specific data for Canada.

The most used hashtag of 2016 was #BellLetsTalk, the charity initiative by Bell where each retweet would see a 5 cent donation towards mental health initiatives.

Here’s the full top 10 list of the most used hashtags:

The most retweeted tweet of 2016 was “A Canadian reacts to #ElectionNight in the U.S.” (protected account), followed by Drake’s tweet from his VIEWS album trackless.

Some key Canadian Twitter milestones this year included Justin Bieber becoming only the second user to hit 90 million followers (Katy Perry was first), while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was the first Canadian politician to hit 2 million followers and the most popular.

The top pro sports team, as you probably guessed was the Toronto Blue Jays, followed by the Raptors, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers rounding out the top five.

The most popular athete was P.K. Subban, followed by Genie Bouchard and Connor McDavid.
