A current ad says it is looking for someone to be the “Head of Grocery Product”, which is part of a new service aimed on changing how people buy groceries:

Uber Eats is looking for a Head of Grocery Product. This role will define, build the organization and globally scale a brand new product offering which will fundamentally evolve how people purchase their groceries.

This is a newly formed team whose focus is developing a new business segment within the Uber portfolio. The team will be based in Toronto, Canada.

Uber Canada confirmed to The Canadian Press it was indeed seeking a candidate for the position, but declined to share any details on what was being planned. The company only said, “Our Eats team is always looking to expand into new areas where our technology can help people get food more easily and efficiently.”

Grocery delivery looks to be yet another frontier in the gig economy. Earlier this month, Walmart confirmed it was set to test fresh grocery delivery app, Cornershop, a Latin American startup it is currently acquiring. The move would see Walmart move grocery delivery in-house, instead of relying on third parties like Instacart, as currently in place within the GTA and Winnipeg.
