Walmart Canada announced this morning they have launched free online grocery pickup for customers in Quebec. Users just visit Walmart.ca, place an online grocery order (up to 21 days in advance) for a particular location, then go pick it up. Stores in Montreal launch the service today.

The Online Grocery Pickup service will be available at the following stores on September 12th, 2017:

Blainville – 1333, boulevard Michèle-Bohec
Lasalle – 6797, boulevard Newman
Laval – 2075, boulevard Chomedey

These stores will debut on September 28th, 2017:

Longueuil – 1999, boulevard Rolland-Therrien
Mascouche – 155, montée Masson
Saint-Bruno – 1475, boulevard Saint-Bruno
Vaudreuil-Dorion – 3050, boulevard de la Gare

”We know our customers want to save money and time, without compromising on the quality of their food products. For us, it is essential that our customers have a convenient and easy shopping experience that meets their expectations and fits their lifestyle’’, said Cyrille Ballereau, vice president of Operations for Eastern Canada at Walmart Canada, in a press release.

Last month, Walmart eliminated their $2.97 pick up fee for online groceries. The launch of stores in Quebec join locations in Ottawa, Greater Toronto Area, Calgary and Edmonton, which also offer Online Grocery pick up.

It’s just a matter of time before Amazon starts offering online grocery pick up and delivery, as part of their recent acquisition of Whole Foods (their private label groceries already are on Amazon.ca). Walmart’s expansion plans appear to have a leg up on Amazon, but let’s bring on the competition.
