EasyTrails GPS is an application that turns your iPhone into a GPS receiver that is able to record, analyze, export and share your tracks.

EasyTrails GPS is an ideal app for those that want to keep track of their various outdoor activities such as biking, hiking and running. The app stores a chronological list of your tracks which makes it very easy to retrieve them at any time to verify your progress.

When starting with the app, the user interface is very straightforward and navigation is made easy with minimal menu items. When you begin to record a track or trail that you are taking, the app begins to record your movements in such measures as distance, latitude, longitude, elevation and speed. These results are then graphed (in Distance/Elevation for example) and can be used for later analysis.

The results can also be exported to a computer to be used with GPS software or shared with others. The app exports your tracks in such file types as GPX, KML and CSV and can be used with a variety of GPS software including Google Maps, Google Earth, SportTracks (Windows), TrailRunner (Mac) or online services such as MotionBased.

EasyTrails GPS also has an integrated Google Maps view that lets you view your tracks in satellite view, as well as letting you use zoom controls. Other features include being able to close the application during a track recording without losing any data of that track and putting the iPhone to sleep without losing any data, which is great for battery life.

Overall EasyTrails GPS provides great functionality with intuitive controls and clean navigation. The variety of export file types allows you to move your tracks off your iPhone with good flexibility and the app preserves battery life by allowing the iPhone to sleep. However the app is not designed for typical GPS use which includes road maps and traveling details, but that would have been a great addition to EasyTrails GPS.

EasyTrails GPS is scored a 4.5 out of 5.

EasyTrails GPS is available in the iTunes App Store for $1.99.

There is also a Lite version available which will only save one track at a time for a maximum of 30 minutes. Check out the Lite version and see if the app works out for you.
