If you’re a fan of hockey and you like iPhones, then Slapshot Frenzy may be just for you!
Slapshot Frenzy is the hockey fix for iPhone users. Whether you’re a die hard hockey fan or just a casual observer, Slapshot Frenzy makes iPhone based hockey rather amusing.
Slapshot Frenzy includes two game modes; Free Skate mode and Classic Mode. In Free Skate mode, players have two minutes to practice their shots without a goal defender.
In Classic Mode, players play through three periods of 2 on 2. The goal is to score as many goals within four and a half minutes. Each game mode also has its own local and global (requires Internet connection) high score list.
The game is rather amusing but I found that the amusement does not last very long. Players have access to half the ice to score their goals and the novelty of scoring is exciting but the game just does not include many exciting features and becomes repetitive very quickly.
Controls & Navigation 1/2
Controlling the players can be rather difficult. Aside from using a finger to move the selected player, the rest of the controls deal with tap gestures.
For example, double tapping the net fires a shot towards it and double tapping the second player passes the puck to that player.
Responsiveness of the controls was pretty good but more often than not I found the tap gestures only worked after continuous tapping on a single player.
Navigation of the menus is clean and simple with options only for the two game modes and corresponding high score lists.
Sounds & Visuals 1/1
Sound effects are very exciting, as the game includes sounds for slapshots, the skates on the ice and the epic horn when a goal is scored. For me, it is the sounds that make Slapshot Frenzy exciting.
The visuals are also quite good as they go very well with the in-game sound effects. The game includes nice visual details and players, sticks and the puck are all very easy to see.
Slapshot Frenzy is scored a 2.5 out of 5.
Slapshot Frenzy is available on the iTunes App Store for $0.99.
Slapshot Frenzy also includes a lite version.
