Apple CarPlay

The company is using its commitment to Apple's CarPlay technology as a selling point over competing EVs from the likes of GM, Tesla, and Rivian.

The 'Tesla Android' workaround has been updated to version 2023.4.1, bringing USB tethering for iOS, Android 13, lossless audio support, and more.

The newest Tesla app update for Android, version 2022.38.1, includes Apple CarPlay on-board, requiring significantly less hardware to run.

A planned new feature will direct users to the nearest gas station and let them pay to fill their tank up directly from their car's dashboard.

Version 2022.25.1 of Tesla Android offers "100% functional CarPlay integration for any Tesla," and also ships with a plethora of improvements and bug fixes.

"Despite all the recent staff departures from the project, I’m still led to believe that development of a vehicle is moving forward," said the analyst.

CarPlay has gone from a feature that can be used to sync your iPhone to your car's media system to essentially a complete infotainment system for vehicles. 

The second build "will be all about audio," enabling audio mixing between Bluetooth devices and deploying a fix for audio issues in navigation apps.

Elon Musk responded to a Twitter user unhappy with low-quality audio over Bluetooth, saying he "will discuss" AirPlay support internally.

The German automaker was forced to switch chip suppliers, and the new chips don't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (or even Wi-Fi) support out of the gate.

"Tesla Android," Polish developer Michał Gapiński's workaround for running Apple CarPlay on a Tesla, is now available to download on Github.

Michał Gapiński's solution features AutoKit — an Apple CarPlay client for Android, running on a Raspberry Pi with an alpha build of Android 12 installed.
