Tesla CEO Confirms Passenger Lumbar Removal in Model 3, Model Y

Replying to a tweet on the matter yesterday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk officially confirmed that the company has removed the front passenger lumbar seat support in its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, Tesla North is reporting.

Musk noted that the change was made because of the low usage of the lumbar support. “Moving lumbar was removed only in front passenger seat of 3/Y ([obviously] not there in rear seats). Logs showed almost no usage. Not worth cost/mass for everyone when almost never used,” he said.

He also said that it was a cost issue as well. “Prices increasing due to major supply chain price pressure industry-wide. Raw materials especially.”

The move comes amidst recent price increases to Model 3 and Model Y, along with the removal of radar for Autopilot, instead moving to a camera-based system known as Tesla Vision.
