iPhone 3G vs 3GS Speed Test: Video of Boot Up Times

As most of you know, I was one of the lucky ones to pick up an iPhone 3GS on the June 19th launch day. The “S” stands for speeds and today I’m going to start showing a few videos of how the iPhone 3GS compares to its little brother, the iPhone 3G.

Let’s start from the very basics and see how the reboot times are with the iPhone 3G vs the 3GS. Just to let you know, both iPhones have 57 apps installed, which seems to affect boot up times. I know some of you are thinking “WHO CARES ABOUT BOOT UP TIMES IPHONE FAN, YOU @#!$%!” Well, if tech websites use the boot up benchmark for speed, why can’t I?

So there you go. I have one more video coming that will show the general smoothness and speed of the 3G vs 3GS. This will include a speed test over the 3G network. Stay tuned to see that video next!

Question of the day: How many apps do you have installed, and what is your iPhone 3GS boot up time?

12 seconds saved for $ 700-800? Or 450-550 or 200-300 if you spend >100 per month with an extension of contract…. and possibly a new iPhone due in a year to keep up with the competition…

I will pass. Math is logical & dictates a decision. Passion for a new toy is priceless ;) & that is the only reason to get the 3GS.

Actually, the math works on that… The processor went from 400 to 600 and your boot-up times [if you add the approx 1 second for you to start the timer] were 36 seconds and 24 seconds, a 50% boost in processor resulting in 33% reduction in boot-up.

There are so many videos being released showing the speed increase from iPhone 3G and the 3GS. From playing games, booting times, FPS, PALM/Blackberry/iPhone loading. Its cool to see how much faster the 3GS really is.
    Cheers iPhoneFan.

Gary, have you noticed a weird sound when receiving sms messages? Apparently, there’s something wrong with the speaker on most 3GS. See the link below:

With 51 apps installed, boot up time on my 3G is 21 seconds and on the 3GS it’s 9 seconds.

Speaking of speed, the most noticeable speed upgrade for me with my 3GS is everything that checks the contacts database. With 2500ish contacts (mostly customers with full vcard info [address, email, multiple phones, notes, etc]) everything is like instant now. Each time I dialed/sms/map search/contact search/”to” field in emails, my 3G used to completely freeze for 2-5 seconds on the first character then more lag on subsequent characters depending if there was multiple matches.

I wouldav paid twice as much for that speed upgrade :)
